Yummy Mala Chicken Brotein

Yummy Mala Chicken Brotein

At first I thought this was protein powder with mala chicken flavour. Made me look twice. Then I realised these ‘broteins’ are actually minced and cooked meat with different flavours. The idea is that you can scoop up a serving to add on to your meals; thus supplementing your protein intake. It’s actually really clever! There are 4 different flavours and I went for MALA.

Packaging

  • Comes in a resealable 1kg ‘pouch’.
  • Packaging is in black with bold white letterings.
  • Comes with a scoop.

So each scoop supposedly measures 50g of meat, meaning you can scoop 20 servings out of one pack.

Delivery

  • This was delivered frozen in a plastic bag. When I received it condensation was already happening on the packaging but the meat itself is still frozen.
  • You are supposed to place it immediately in the fridge not the freezer.

Taste

It’s quite good actually. The taste is not very strong though.

  • It is not oily or greasy.
  • It definitely is not spicy, not sure if you can even call this mala. Maybe level 1? Or 0.5? Is there such a thing?

You can add it to anything you like: rice, vegetables, taco, etc. As you can tell from the packaging, this is meant to supplement/add to your meals.

I add it to my blanched broccoli to mask that raw vegetable taste which I still cannot get over with. Don’t judge me.

Huang Hou Di

I don’t think you should eat it alone… Well you can if you want to. It is, after all, up to you how you consume this.

Thoughts

I like this. Though I am pretty sure it’s easy to replicate the recipe and make your own ‘broteins’ to store in the fridge. At $20.30, the Mala Chicken Brotein is not cheap; yet not pricey either. However the key here though; is convenience. It even comes with the scoop. If your meal do not have enough protein this is easy to add on.

Even if you do not count your nutrition intake this is pretty convenient to have in the fridge. But then again it is advised to consume within 7 days of delivered date. Guess no long term storage here.

If I were to complain, I wish they would have provided 20 scoops, so I do not have to wash it every time I scoop out the meat from the pouch. But that’s just me 🤣

So is 50g of cooked minced meat worth $20.30/20 = $1.015 ?

For Huang Hou Di, it is 😎
